Janice Rand was a human Starfleet officer who joined Starfleet at a relatively young age, and continued to serve for almost thirty years, starting as a Yeoman aboard the USS Enterprise, in 2266, to Commander and Communications Officer aboard the USS Excelsior (NCC-2000). After graduating Officers Training she rejoined the USS Enterprise under James T. Kirk and filled duties as alternate navigation officers, and began training to become Transporter Chief.

Janice Rand is a yeoman serving on the USS Enterprise. She was on board the Galileo when it crashed on Taurus II. She could hardly believe it when Joseph Latimer was killed by a Taurus II anthropoid. She was later rescued along with the rest of the crew of the Galileo by Nyota Uhura.
